Our House of the Spirits

If Thailand is a fascinating country, it is even more so its beliefs in which the world of spirits and the afterlife become something almost magical. The house of the spirits, or in Thai, "San Phra Phum", are small miniatures located in bases of wood, of brick or of concrete among other materials, and which they harbor a varied collection of "tenants" that can be so much human as divine beings or animals.

Its task is to appease the spirits that inhabit the area where the building has been built and to bless its inhabitants. In the houses, there is usually a small terrace and in it, every day, food, drink, flowers or incense is left.

The caretakers of the houses of the spirits, not only give them food and incense, also put in the small home everything necessary for the spirits to have what they have in life. Figures of dancers to entertain them, pets to keep them company and even elephants and horses to transport them.
